This djembe has a hairline crack near the base of the drum. A crack in the base of a djembe does not affect the sound quality and this is a great performing instrument. Sometimes with wooden djembes, cracks will form in the base, but the only time you should really be concerned is when there is a crack in the bowl... that's where the sweet spot of the drum is and a crack in the bowl may produce undesired results.
The Red and Black Djembe features a two tone contrast of red and black stripes offering a bit of attitude. Master carvers have paid special attention to the detailing of this drum to provide a unique rough texture. Authentic goatskin heads are secured with low-stretch Alpine Nylon HTB 5mm rope runners. We recommend this drum for beginner to intermediate players.
